I plowed through the rest of the season today. By episode nine I really wanted to slap this show. They just kept doing the same thing over and over again, throwing new players into the mix. Well, we've killed everyone else, let's toss some new meat into the grinder. Then the last episode, *sigh*. Have I mentioned how much I hate the found footage format? Been there, done that.
Just cut them up like regular chickens

seems i didn't post in this thread for the last season, AHS 1984. it was really great. quite amusing, done well. recommended. didn't get past episode 3 of apocalypse, way too much hardcore gay sex, but i heard it got good. maybe one day i'll check it out.

apparently this is still going - here's a poster for the upcoming season 10.

also, apparently there is a parallel show "american horror stories" which is more of an anthology over on hulu. haven't watched yet.

watched the first three episodes of American Horror Stories. the first two were a two-parter, taking place back in the murder house. the third was a great shout out to "cursed films" and drive-ins. enjoying the show, particularly the part where john carroll lynch beats the mortal fuck out of tipper gore.

fourth episode featured danny trejo dressed as santa delivering "what they deserve" to people, in this case a group of youtube bro stars. while it was supremely satisfying to see that happen, getting there was very painful, having to watch these 'tards emulating actual social media "stars" of today.

Fifth episode “Ba’al” was pretty great. This show would be especially great if you are paying for hulu plus or whatever it is without commercials. The commercials are fucking brutal on hulu. If i didn’t get it free i would probably drop it. But this show as an anthology series works extremely well. Darker sensibilities than creepshow and right up my alley.

as for which predates which, depends on who you read.

as for this show, the last episode (at least i assume it's the last) wasn't great. it tried too hard to connect everything. i think there were maybe one or two too many layers to the point that the attempt at being clever put holes in the whole thing. it was still ok but nothing like the previous couple that were great.

So i watched the first two episodes of the show proper’s new season, which i guess is 10. It’s ok, but the whole time i’m thinking that this is so incredibly like anne rice’s vampire series that we’re going to see very similar, if not identical, things play out when the Interview… series hits screens. No way this pace or storyline continues for an entire season, so this is likely going to be another one where there’s a hard left turn after another episode or two. Shrug. So far, most of the side series episodes were better.

i'm still a couple episodes behind, but was getting caught up last night. the vampire saga seemingly ended after episode 5, which was good as i don't know where you go from there. it ended up being really cool. the suddenly in episode 6, it's a completely different storyline involving aliens, starting back at the roswell crash, then jumping to current times in the second episode (7). these two halves of the season appear to be unconnected. it's interesting, wondering where it's going here...

Welp, new season started this week, first two episodes of AHS:NYC (season 11) dropped. I watched them. It’s back to being very aggressively gay. Literally about someone hunting gays in I guess early 80s NYC. Filled with lessons on gay terminology and scenes in bath houses, bars, and a photography studio. But the real message of the show is that the cops don’t care that gays are getting murdered, it’s just gay stuff - same exactly line of bullshit Murphy passed off with Dahmer. His line of bullshit and agenda are very, very tired on this viewer. Even the last brief “season” of the plural American Horror Stories was mostly filled with gay-centric stories, very much unlike the previous season. Murphy can certainly do good and unique horror when he decides he wants to. Maybe one day he’ll do that again. This is not that year. We’re a long way from Murder House or Asylum here, or even last season’s plural. I realize we’re only two episodes in, and I hope things find some direction other than “gays are awesome and cops are evil” - WE GET IT, please. Fucking christ.

Again, I don’t understand why, in the last few years, “gay” and “horror” communities are intersecting. 99% of gay dudes I have met or know hate horror. It’s really weird.

After watching the first six episodes, I can’t take it anymore. I kept watching, waiting for the “twist” where something was finally going to happen, but it’s not coming. This thing has all the plot of a Jackie Treehorn production. It’s just a gay porno. That’s what the whole season is, it’s gay porn - just enough plot to be called a “show”, but any real story gets in the way of the hardcore gay sex stuff.

Ryan Murphy has way too much power. The dude is drunk with it. This turn completely alienates the fanbase that gave him the ability to make big choices and take big risks. Is it a risk deciding to make a show that’s really only for the small percentage of gay people that were in your existing fan base? Maybe, just not one I’ll be continuing to watch. This, and season 8, are the only ones I bailed on, and both for the same reason. I don’t know who this show is for (the unicorn gay dude into horror, I suppose), but it’s not me.

Last season was weird (doing the split alien/vampire thing halfway through) but good, previous (1984) was great, and the anthology series (at least the first season) was also great. Shrug. Murphy is weird, as evidenced by the decisions he made on Dahmer to inject propaganda when it was completely unnecessary (the real story is plenty interesting).
