saw this yesterday. i quite enjoyed it. was pretty amazing to see
them establishing the connection to the original films with cornelius and nova, but kind of baffling to think that then means those films are maybe 20 years off in this timeline - seems like they'd be farther.
i won't comment on the socio-economic statements this film makes. if you want to see the same statements, watch any commercial. but as a sci-fi entry into this world, it worked quite well. but
with the death of cesar, and i assume the departure of serkis other than in dream sequences ala koba in this film, who is going to carry this forward? maurice? i hope not. is the next film going to jump ahead 15 years and focus on cornelius? i also hope not. but i guess we'll see. i'm assuming they want there to be 5 of these as well for a total of 10.
really, the lesson is - james franco is the cause of the death of mankind.

welp, finally caught Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes. i'll copy & paste my comments from Letterboxd here:
Major drop off from previous entries. Should have been far more aggressively edited - it’s 35-40 minutes of setup before the movie actually starts after its “compelling” event. 85%-90% “monkey drama”, very few human scenes or human involvement in the story (until way later), so it’s true to the title I guess, but just feels like watching a very expensive cartoon that’s trying really hard to make you care about a world of monkeys you just met. I don’t know, I loved the other films in this modern era, but this was a big snoozefest for me. Don’t see why I’d watch this one again, which is new for me and this current era of the series.
