watched this over the weekend. i don't know why we needed some poirot backstory, but that's here. seems common with branagh films. he once again has an overly-serious and tedious take on great source material. i don't know why agatha christie material is so difficult to film. accents and acting are inconsistent at best, i don't know why some of the changes from the original were necessary, and the things happening and said are nowhere near period-accurate. that being said, it is pretty to look at, and not nearly as bad as you've heard. it's the living embodiment of "meh".

i remembered loving the OG (1978) version of this and rewatched the next day for comparison's sake. boy has that not aged well. i'm not sure this isn't better. some very ridiculous things happening in that film and it asks a lot of the viewer in terms of suspension of disbelief. it's ham city, with every actor and every line being delivered at an 11/10 to the back of the auditorium.
