Saw Spider-man 2 today. Or I guess Amazing Spider-man 2 since the other title was already used. It was better than I expected, as they didn't create a overly complex mishmash of the villains, there's really one main one and the other two play more minor rolls. There are some pacing problems. I probably would have fallen asleep in a couple of places had the guy a couple seats over already not been snoring so loud. Seeing it right after X-men certainly didn't help my opinion I'm sure. In the end I guess I'd say my opinion is pretty much the same as its predecessor. It didn't suck, but it's not really memorable either. I've already forgotten most of it except for the end.

finally saw this. agree with mike, but
HOLY SHIT THEY KILLED GWEN STACEY?!?!?
lol. so dumb. and now i read that sony wants to - AGAIN - completely blow this up and re-re-re-reboot it. whatever. i agree with mike that it wasn't nearly as bad as i thought it would have been. the first 20-30 min were really fun & true to the comics. it wasn't awful. but wow, the writing.

I suspect they killed her off as in the comic so they could move on to Mary Jane in the next batch of films, at least that was the original intent before the film under performed and they started getting cold feet on the future.
I think the rumors of them re-re-re booting were only what was going to happen if Marvel somehow got involved in the franchise. Since a deal wasn't made who knows what they'll do. They might keep the story going, just stick a new actor in place. So not so much a re-boot as a Don Cheadle replacing Terrence Howard kind of thing.

Marvel wrote:Sony Pictures Entertainment Brings Marvel Studios Into The Amazing World Of Spider-Man
New Spider-Man Will Appear First in an Upcoming Marvel Film Within Marvel’s Cinematic Universe

Marvel's Kevin Feige to Produce Next Installment of the Spider-Man Franchise with Amy Pascal

(Culver City, California, and Burbank, California February 09, 2015) – Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced today that Sony is bringing Marvel into the amazing world of Spider-Man.

Under the deal, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe (MCU). Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise, on July 28, 2017, in a film that will be co-produced by Kevin Feige and his expert team at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio 13 years ago. Together, they will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger. Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films.

Marvel and Sony Pictures are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the MCU into future Spider-Man films.

The new relationship follows a decade of speculation among fans about whether Spider-Man – who has always been an integral and important part of the larger Marvel Universe in the comic books – could become part of the Marvel Universe on the big screen. Spider-Man has more than 50 years of history in Marvel's world, and with this deal, fans will be able to experience Spider-Man taking his rightful place among other Super Heroes in the MCU.

Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company said: "Spider-Man is one of Marvel's great characters, beloved around the world. We're thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building."

"We always want to collaborate with the best and most successful filmmakers to grow our franchises and develop our characters. Marvel, Kevin Feige and Amy, who helped orchestrate this deal, are the perfect team to help produce the next chapter of Spider-Man," said Michael Lynton, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment. "This is the right decision for the franchise, for our business, for Marvel, and for the fans."

"Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker's story into the future," added Doug Belgrad, president, Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group.

"I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie," said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. "Amy has been deeply involved in the realization on film of one of the world’s most beloved characters. Marvel's involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU. I am equally excited for the opportunity to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU, something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years."

Spider-Man, embraced all over the world, is the most successful franchise in the history of Sony Pictures, with the five films having taken in more than $4 billion worldwide.

BAD wrote:Marvel Phase Three Gets Realigned To Make Room For Spider-Man

It was just a couple of months ago that Kevin Feige did a Steve Jobs-style presentation at the El Capitan theater, laying out Marvel Studios' release dates through the end of the decade. There was a road map and it looked good.

Now that map is outdated. As Sony and Marvel have come together to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe that entire plan has to be changed to make room, and the changes are happening as soon as 2017, as Thor: Ragnarok moves away from the July date occupied by Spider-Man: Swinging Home. Everything else gets shuffled as a result, with the new Phase Three now looking like this:

May 6, 2016: Captain America: Civil War

November 4, 2016: Doctor Strange

May 5, 2017: Guardians of the Galaxy 2

July 28, 2017: Amazing Spider-Man 3

November 4, 2017: Thor: Ragnarok

July 6, 2018: Black Panther

November 2, 2018: Captain Marvel

July 12, 2019: Inhumans

There's no word yet on how the Avengers: Infinity War diptych is being impacted. They were scheduled for May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 - the release date changes don't move any films onto those spots, but I wonder if the story being threaded through the MCU movies won't necessitate some position jockeying. Many people were assuming the two films released between the Avengers movies - Captain Marvel and Inhumans - played into the story. Now it's Black Panther and Captain Marvel opening between them, and it's hard to imagine how Black Panther could spring out of Avengers: Infinity War Part 1.

Whatever the case, we have an incredible rest of the decade ahead of us. The Spider-Man news has proven Marvel can pull off anything, and the release date changes show that they're willing to play with the plan when they need to do so. I don't know that we should even accept these dates as final, or that these will be the only films we see in Phase Three...
pretty unbelievable. i'm kind of in shock that sony is doing the right thing.

poor andrew garfield, good casting, bad timing.

Never cared for him actually. He plays everything like he's got horrible diarrhea and it's taking all his concentration to keep it held in. He won't be missed.

Somewhere over at Fox at least one or more execs just pissed themselves this morning. They've got a lot riding on Fantastic Four now and if it's a dud Garfield won't be the only one polishing up his résumé.

I've yet to like a single performance of Garfield's. darkness nailed it.

I can't get my head around the notion that Fantastic Four is going to be this massive deal. Didn't everyone hate the previous two movies that came out barely a decade ago?

Sony made the right business decision, they'll let Marvel do the heavy work and pick up the check. FF bombs as some have predicted I wouldn't be surprised if it quietly slips back into Marvel's hands at some point soon. I too don't really give a rip about Garfield, I'm sure Marvel will have no trouble re-casting.

Fox is counting on FF to hit so they can build their own cinematic universe with X-Men. If it underperforms heads will roll. True, no one has been clamoring for another FF film after the last two. But people weren't demanding a Guardians of the Galaxy or Iron Man film before they came out and we know how that all turned out. With the right people behind it the masses can be sold. The problem is Fox often makes stupid decisions when it comes to both talent and managing it.

Yeah, although I liked Chronicle I don't see a lot of other 'right people' behind this reboot, which so far looks pretty unrecognizable from a brand recognition standpoint. And as Trank has only Chronicle under his belt, who knows if he can tell a good story consistently or if he just caught lightning in a bottle? Watched Blair Witch Project again this past weekend (in my ongoing "introduce the 12 year old to horror" series) and I remembered how huge a career I figured those clever filmmakers would go on to have. Iron Man had a very likeable leading man in RDJ; by the time Guardians came out, it had a very recognizable and now beloved brand behind it, along with strong reviews.

Sounds like Drew Goddard will make the jump over from the Sinister Six Sony thing to the Sony/Marvel Spiderman film, supposedly to be titled Spectacular Spider Man (again, from Latino Review, who tends to get their Marvel shit right). Although this may be the third occurrence of new Spidey, as he's said to debut in Captain America: Civil War and perhaps cameo in Dr. Strange. As far as plot rumors,
supposedly he'll be a high schooler, they will not fuck around with an origin story anymore, and he may square off against Iron Man in a bid to join The Avengers. Supposedly the Sinister Six will have formed by the end, setting up the Spidey vs SS flick as a sequel

I think they got their spoilers mixed a bit as to which film is which.
Spider-man fought Iron Man in the original Civil War story when he switched to Captain America's side after revealing his identity. So it's more likely that Civil War will be the film where Spidey and Iron Man fight each other. Then sinister six rolled into the solo Spider-man film with maybe some brief Iron Man involvement to set up Peter's role in the Avengers in time for Infinity War 1.
