Been reading good things about this but I have yet to see a theater showing it in Denver.

It's not like its in the same universe or anything. It's just that there are themes in both works that are very similar. The inventor of the train in snowpiercer is an Ayn Rand-type character, as is Andrew Ryan in Bioshock. They both are heavily influensed, from a visual standpoint, of 50's americana and art deco. Also, the main character shares many traits with Jack in Bioshock (and they follow somewhat of a similar path). There are other similarities as well.

Watched it VOD this weekend, pretty good. A few inventive action sequences and some fun over-the-top acting here and there, you definitely are required to suspend all disbelief as there's nothing hugely rational about how the train is organized and operates, but it makes its points in an entertaining way. Korean directors just seem to know how to bring the hurt with their violence a little better than anyone else. And it has some of my favorite dialogue of the year when Evans fesses up to his past crimes, I'll leave it at that.

late to the party but i saw this yesterday. not at all what i thought it was. it was pretty hilarious in parts, actually. reminded me of a gilliam film, just so fucking odd that it makes some kind of sense. that aquarium car - how wide is this train?? also, at the end -
i guess they're the only ones left alive? going to be a pretty awkward conversation in 5 years or so when they have to discuss, you know, repopulating the earth...
would watch again, pretty cool.

so i watched the first episode of the snowpiercer series last night. it covers several points not made clear in the film, but mainly is about an entirely new story. jennifer connelly is the main baddie. recast the male lead as a black guy, and every person in power is white. one of the things made clear is that the "tailies" are only on the train because they attacked it when it was about to launch, storming down the fences and attacking the guards, to become essentially stow-aways on a train that they didn't pay for, that has to sustain the human race in a delicately balanced ecosystem that had been planned to the excruciating detail. the train never planned on putting people in the rear cars, with no windows, essentially in slave class. that was never the idea. they put themselves there. also has great dialog, like "you have all this, and you can't SHARE?!?!?!?" don't think i can stomach this show. will be bailing for something decently written. i love jennifer, but this show promises to be a joke compared to the film, and really unnecessary. BJH was an exec producer, which makes it even sadder. it's almost like people have forgotten that there are countries where living through oppressive communism and socialism still exists and is not loved, to say the least. but sure, deify it here. knock yourself out, TNT. really surprised ted turner aired this.

Unnecessary is the word I got in my head the moment I heard of this show. Did they try to cash in on the hype around Boon Joon-ho? Nothing anybody has said about it makes me wanna watch it.

as i said he's one of the exec producers. i don't know if this was HIS idea, or if they said "hey can we put your name on this? here's a large sum of money". but i'm out.

Exec prod is probably one of the most diffuse titles in movie/tv making. I would bet it means a check at the end of the month, tops.
