You're still taking me way wrong man! This was never an attempt to get to to "switch from the dark side and see the light!". Horses for courses - if you're comfortable with using Apple products and aren't an ignorant little pleb who confesses to be the next Woz, which you're not, then their ain't a problem! My problem with Apple was their business practices (App Store/iTunes shenanigans be the most obvious examples) and that their products attract a larger percentage of the aforementioned plebs than any other manufacturer.

I, uh, guess I can offer that I used to have an iPod and enjoyed it? It was, at the time, without equal (and I suppose still is in the world of dedicated MP3 players). The only reason that I gave it away to my flat-mate was because he bought me a 32GB SD card for my HTC Desire and it was kinda pointless carrying around both.

Edit: But deep down you know you're using my posts as an excuse to move back to Android because you always preferred it anyway. :haw:

I think you mistook his statement. He's not dumping his iPhone for a Android phone, He already has an Android phone, I assume because Sprint didn't even offer the iPhone until this week. He's just uninstalling his hacked rom for the real one to see if what I said about battery life is true.
In the interest of full disclosure, I do own two iPods. When I use them I have to fight the urge to offer up a sacrifice to Steve Jobs, but so far I'm resisted the cult. ;)

Oh, he's calling you? Yeah, I kinda wondered about that myself. If I charge my phone fully and don't touch the thing all day, with bluetooh/GPS/Wi-Fi turned off, the battery will maybe last 16 hours. It's a bit crap to be honest, and a common complaint about the Desire.

Really? Wow! I use the hell out of my GPS, especially the that first month or so after moving when I didn't know where the hell anything was. I've only once had it die on me, but that was torward the end of the day after hours of use.

You guys gotta stop draining the battery watching all that porn. :)

heh
The idea of technology as a fashion accessory is kinda nailing in the point here, the whole "ooooh look at the shiny shiny" mentality of a magpie seems to be coming into play. Lets focus on the iPhone for a minute, does it work better than other products on the current market? No not really, there are others that work just as well or better. Sure it's probably the most popular smart phone*, and through very intensive marketing is has managed to achieve iconic status by telling people that they need one to be accepted, and since we live in a time where the X-Factor has a massive following, it's hardly any wonder.

Steve jobs was one of the most succesful marketing guys the world has and will ever see, but giving him the status of "Tech genius" is like saying Gary Barlow is a guitar god.
* - "Android [...] now accounts for around 48% of global smartphone shipments, compared to 19% for Apple." Source: link below.
In all fairness Microsoft have made a much greater contribution. They developed a unique kernel & OS (not Unix based or like). They developed a usable touchscreen phone and tablet OS before anyone else. They've changed the way we interact with computers astoundingly. Gates is now spending millions on medicine for the worlds poorest people.

Yet, the public view him as a money grabbing chancer while they view Jobs as almost god like.

One of the original developers of Unix (90% of the Apple OS) and the C programming language (used to code almost everything) died a few days after Jobs and hardly anyone noticed. Without him there would be no Apple.

Jobs Vowed to Destroy Android - "Mr Jobs told author Walter Isaacson that he viewed Android's similarity to iOS as "grand theft"."; HAH!

Um, about that iphone battery life:
iPhone 4S Battery Life Problems Befuddle Apple Engineers, Owners
First Posted: 10/28/11 06:46 PM ET Updated: 10/28/11 07:22 PM ET

Though the iPhone 4S has set sales records and been met with hugely positive reviews, owners have been reporting a big problem with their new Apple smartphone: battery life.

Could Apple be on the verge of Battery-Gate? A story in the Guardian reported that Apple engineers have begun contacting certain users who have complained about battery problems; apparently, Apple has asked those users to install diagnostic programs onto their phones so that Apple can better diagnose what is causing the battery problems. We've reached out to Apple for comment on that front and will update when we hear back.

Almost since the release of the iPhone 4S, the Internet has been absolutely lit up with stories about the failings of its battery life. iLounge's mammoth review of the iPhone 4S noted that the biggest disappointment about the phone is its battery performance.

Erick Schonfeld, editor of our sister site TechCrunch, recently penned an opinion piece/plea-to-corporate-giant entitled "Dear Apple, Please Make My iPhone 4S Battery Life Suck Less," in which he describes his iPhone dying within eight hours of a full charge. His claims that the iPhone 4S battery lasted for about two-and-a-half hours of Internet usage, 30 minutes of talk time and five hours on standby before being drained, echoed similar claims on the Apple support forums, which are flooded with complaints and pleas for help. MacWorld also published a long first-person essay in which one writer investigates his problems with the iPhone 4S's battery and attempts to get to the root of the problem.

Looking for ways to improve your own iPhone 4S's battery life? Several tech sites around the web have published stories about just that. Apple blog TiPb and HuffPost tech sister site TUAW, for example, offered several tips for improving performance, including lowering your screen brightness and locking your display whenever you aren't using it. Gizmodo also listed several possible culprits that could be draining the iPhone battery (most likely: iCloud, Location Services, the Notification Center). GottaBeMobile and The Atlantic Wire both offered extensive battery life tips as well.

In its story, the Guardian notes that Apple is forthright about the lackluster battery life of its newest iPhone: Its technical specs show that the iPhone 4S gets even worse standby battery life than the original iPhone. The first-generation model got 250 hours of standby time, compared with 200 for the iPhone 4S. The iPhone 4 got 300 hours of standby time.

Though Apple's website has a handy list of tips for those wanting to improve their phone's battery life, the complaints have not stopped pouring in; if the Guardian's story is true, then Apple may have its first bonafide PR problem on its hands. Last year's Antenna-Gate scandal is surely fresh: The fiasco surrounding the "death grip" that caused the iPhone 4 to lose cellular reception was much publicized, but apparently did not cause Apple to lose any fans or mobile consumers. Given initial sales numbers for the iPhone 4S, Antenna-Gate was but a minor blip on the radar.

This, too, is probably the fate for the iPhone 4S battery life saga: an annoyance, not a disqualifier. For now, iPhone 4S owners will just have to learn to keep a charger more handy than they're accustomed to doing.

Well that kinda hit home...

Talking of battery usage, I found this: http://sitefinder.ofcom.org.uk/search - it shows the antennas around me, and what network they provide access to. I have a little app on my phone that shows a map of your current location, and on that map it displays the antennas that your phone is currently connected to and using - very useful. Between the two, I found out that the nice big antenna right outside my window is not, in fact, of any use to me as it's for a completely different network. :-(

Anyway, when I kicked off with this app, my battery was at 63%. Had to turn on GPS and Wi-fi for it to work properly. Two or three minutes later, it caught my eye: 27%. I sat and watched the battery indicator over the next minute drop like a stone in front of my very eyes. :aaa:

I so totally cannot wait until I get this: http://www.google.com/nexus/ - 1750mAh, compared to the 1200mAh of this HTC. Unfortunately, there appear to be conflicting reports on whether or not it has an SD-card slot. :|
