This page loads up fine; do you still have that lengthy blog full of youtube videos and whatnot on page 1? That's what was doing it before, and it still locks up if I go there.

I have the same issues as Alexhead. Those pages with the tons of videos either don't load or take 5 minutes or so to load in IE. I've discovered it works fine in Firefox though. I just hate Firefox with a passion and don't like using it. So I pretty much ending up skipping pages with lots of videos.
Actually, I don't know what server you moved to, but this whole site is slow as hell now.

Ah, IE, the source of all our problems. Story of the internet. Given the nature of the problem, I doubt that there is anything I can do. IE is most likely just unable to handle that many instances of the flash plugin running within a single session. I appreciate that you may not have much of a choice at work and the likes, and I apologise that there is not more that can be done. There are two options here as I see it: y'all start using proper browsers, or embedded videos will have to be disabled altogether. Up to you lot there, I really don't care.

When it comes to home browsing, there are more alternative browsers out there than just Firefox - though, obviously, that would be my recommendation. Opera and Safari both have versions available for Windows too, they may be worth a try. Firefox3 should also be seeing the light of day fairly soon too - you can try the (relatively stable) nightly builds to see if that's any better for you.

Basically, IE just hasn't kept up with the internet.

Firefox makes most pages look like shit, especially with fonts. Not to mention there doesn't seem to be an option in the browser to make it check for updates to the page always. Thus many times when I update someone's webpage, I'll get a call a few days later wondering why I haven't done it yet. The conversation usually goes something like this:
Other person: "Why haven't you updated the webpage yet?"
Me: "I did it three days ago."
Other: "It looks the same to me."
Me: "Let me check." Pulls up page online. "All the changes are there. I'm looking at it right now. Hit reload in your browser."
Other: "No, it's still the same."
Me: "Are you using Firefox by any chance?"
Other: "Yes."
Me: "Ah, you'll have to completely clear your cache and then go to the page again."
Other: "Okay. Oh yeah, there it is. Cool!"
Me: (Makes gun shot to the head motion)

So fuck Firefox and all of you who use it! :flipa:

As for the video issue, I'd just leave it the way it is. I have firefox on all my computers just so I can check code when I'm done with pages on as many possible browsers. Normally I just ignore the video thread, and if I get really curious I can fire up the other browser. Actually, I don't think IE not being able to handle multiple versions of the flash plugin is the problem. I create webpages all the time with tons of flash embeds in them and IE always plays it fine. I think it has something to do with the coding YouTube uses, as that's the one that only causes problems.

first - yes, FF does have that option.

second - what version of IE are you both using?

ooookay... I got that you hate Firefox already, it's why I mentioned that there are alternatives to it. Anyway, if you just want to suck it up and ignore the problem, that works for me too I guess.

First - Well no one who uses it seems to know where said option is.
Second - IE7

first - i don't have it in front of me and will tell you tonight.
second - weird. :dunno: i'm using 6 at work and while the site generally looks like ass and that page takes awhile to load it does eventually load without issue.

I would assume "The Short Films Collection.." thread in Celluloid Output has video...whatever is in there, it won't open and it crashes my browsers at home and work.

It doesn't crash for me, but takes about two minutes before it decides to load the page and when it does only the first video is playable, everything else is an empty square. But I think we've been over this already.
IE 7.0.5730.13
Actually, I'm starting to think it's a combination of IE and the slow ass crappy server you guys are on. Everything here takes forever to load most of the time, and I think IE must have something built into it that times out on waiting to load the videos and just gives up.

ok, that's a completely different issue. i've accessed this site from many different locations and using many different speeds and have never thought of it as slow by any means. especially since the upgrade. i'd like to get some more info from you. if you will, open a command prompt (Start --> Run --> type "cmd" without quotes, hit enter) and type "tracert g0re.net" without quotes, then copy & paste the output here or in a PM to me if you want...

as far as IE, looks like you're on the current version. that's disturbing. you're on XP too, i guess? i experience what you're saying on my work computer using IE 6. the only thing i can think of is that i know XP has a built-in max simultaneous connections of 10 and on pages where there are more external connections (videos) than that, it freaks out and starts killing the connections eventually.

i'm of course not asking anyone to switch operating systems - what you use is what you use. but of course i again have to recommend firefox. i've been using version 3 RC1 and prior beta versions of 3 and it's even better than 2. basically, since i first tried it, i've switched. however, if you feel so inclined, i'd like to see if FF works for you on your computer with these threads...

i understand your preferences, and i understand my obligation as a web developer to make a site as accessible as possible but all the design tweaks i've done here and there to "break" things so that IE renders it correctly aside, i really enjoy the embeded video feature and don't think i can "break" the site enough to fix it for this particular issue. it's a little odd. not sure how to even begin with it.

It's slow on my laptop here at home and on my badass mega new computer at work. Here's the tracerout from home, which actually has faster internet than work (bigger tubes here :) ).
