Re: Olympics 2008: Beijing
5I thought the drum-sequence was just absolutely amazing. It got a bit tedious in the middle, but the finale was nothing short of breath-taking. Zhang Yimou did a good job.
Re: Olympics 2008: Beijing
6sooo.... ii watched olympic badmitten this morning. three words come to mind: what the fuck??? lol. wow.
Re: Olympics 2008: Beijing
7"Women's Air Rifle"???? ok, this is a joke now, right? where's ashton....
Re: Olympics 2008: Beijing
8strangely, watching women's indoor volleyball is not nearly as fun as watching women's beach volleyball...

Re: Olympics 2008: Beijing
15Oh hey we've got a gold already for some event that no-one's heard of. We are also, unsurprisingly, completely tanking the opposition at rowing. aaaaaand that's about it.
Re: Olympics 2008: Beijing
16that men's relay last night was just flat-out amazing. the most incredible finish i've ever seen in a swimming event, and i'm geeked about swimming events in the olympics. wow. amazing. take THAT you mouthy frogs!
Re: Olympics 2008: Beijing
17Should I be surprised that NBC are pretty much dictating the Olympics? Apparently, they decide when many of the events shall take place, so that it can be broadcasted during the best possible time of day in the US.
Re: Olympics 2008: Beijing
18Let me be the first to second TC's assertion that women's beach volleyball is a compelling sport.
Also, I am oddly...affected...by some of the female weightlifters..esp. some of the
Asian ones. Damn...
Conversely, some of the Asian female gymnasts...OK, almost all of them...freak me out. Their skills are insane, but girls of 20 years who look 8 are just odd. I mean...they look like little tiny kids.

Re: Olympics 2008: Beijing
19That's Zhang Yimou for you. Check out his nationalist-populist phase in Hero and House of Flying Daggers and then, if you're feeling really daring, you can go back and check out Raise the Red Lantern and To Live.TC wrote:if you aren't watching these opening ceremonies, you are truly missing something amazing. i've never seen anything like it. incredible. at first i thought it was somehow computer controlled, but it's freaking PEOPLE. simply incredible.
The Thais were pretty disappointed with their weightlifting tallys, apparently.
Re: Olympics 2008: Beijing
20Yeah--that one Thai girl failed completely to clear the jerk.klimov wrote:
