LABELS ARE EVIL!!!!... except now that i've made multiple successful soundtracks and collaborated on several high-profile efforts, i'm much more marketable and labels rule.

Trent Reznor’s best-known project has signed to Columbia Records.

According to a press release, the newly reformed Nine Inch Nails is not just a touring entity: the band has signed to Columbia (home to sister project How to destroy angels_) and will release an album later this year. Previously, NIN was rumored to be releasing a new song in June.

“I’ve been less than honest about what I’ve really been up to lately. For the last year I’ve been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly fucking great. This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, HTDA and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place. Here we go!”

Earlier this year, Reznor reformed his longtime project, bringing King Crimson guitarist Adrian Belew, Telefon Tel Aviv’s Josh Eustis, and former NIN touring partners Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini, and Ilan Rubin into the fold. The band has a series of festival dates planned for the rest of the year. [via Pitchfork]

Of course he has.

Was really disappointed that Eric Avery dropped out of the tour, hope he has some presence on the album at least.

I put Nine Inch Nails in the same boat as Metallica. Always promising a return to the glory days with every new album, but too far removed from what made them creative originally to be anything more than a distant shadow. Trent looked like an accountant last time I saw him.
Just cut them up like regular chickens

Yup.

I saw them live in '06. Trent had a buzz cut and sported a see-through muscle shirt to show off his newly ripped arms. He looked like Tom Cruise.

Oh yeah, uber-boring show. They played most of the With Teeth album and a handful of oldies.

The new single sounds like the same stuff he was churning out five years ago.

With Teeth was the last album he put out that I thought had some really good stuff on it, The Slip and Year Zero seemed too fuckaround for me. And like most musicians who've been doing it for 20+ years, he's run out of melodies and is just repeating himself if the single is any indication.
