i like paul's work quite a bit really, but fuck all of this. you can't a) answer dave's questions, or b) take some time away to honor jeff? all i can do is shake my head.

Yea but even if they got Dave, without Jeff, it really doesn't matter anyway.

Oh, I have nothing bad to say about Paul either, and in fact he was probably the standout in Slayer circa 1996-2001. Obviously the best option with Jeff's passing would've been to dissolve the band — it's ridiculous to plod along without the main songwriter. But given that KK wasn't about to cancel tour dates and miss out on all that revenue, the least he could've done is treat the fans to what remains of the original band. Carrying on with only 1/2 of Slayer is pretty insulting to anyone who's ever cared about the band.

It'd still have been 3/4 of the original band, which has been good enough for Voivod.

This afternoon, Dave posted a cryptic status update on Facebook: "Yes? No? What???" It's triggered a wave of responses. Everyone's assuming he's been asked to rejoin the band.

Bostaph has flaked out before...

holmes was making $750/wk on their last tour. zero chance he rejoins unless they get their shit together.

They'd need to pay him what he's worth -- including for income lost since they fired him. Then, give him a percentage of the band/corp. Anything less than that, don't bother.

Do you really think he would get back together with King after this mess? I've read a couple of interviews where Lombardo weren't exactly raving about that guy after the shit hit the fan.

I think they could come to an arrangement provided the money's right. Money's what prompted the split in the first place.

well, refusing to allow dave a look at the details of where their money goes is more like it. at least, according to him, who i find far more believable and trustworthy, given that many, many other musicians have worked with him repeatedly.

Hey, a new song:

Well... I've heard worse. Like, most of what came out under the Slayer banner from '96-01. But that's setting the bar awfully low. Plainly it's just a standard 65 mph Kerry King piece, which is all he seems capable of.

Setlist from Friday's show in Salt Lake City:

01. Hell Awaits
02. The Antichrist
03. Necrophiliac
04. Mandatory Suicide
05. Captor Of Sin
06. War Ensemble
07. Postmortem
08. Altar Of Sacrifice
09. Jesus Saves
10. At Dawn They Sleep
11. Die By The Sword
12. Hallowed Point
13. Seasons In The Abyss
14. Chemical Warfare
15. Dead Skin Mask
16. Raining Blood
17. Black Magic
18. South Of Heaven
19. Angel Of Death

All oldies (clearly even they know "Implode" is a dog). Why weren't they using this setlist while Hanneman was still alive and Lombardo on the kit?

Apparently they may not be playing Denver again any time soon: http://blogs.westword.com/backbeat/2014 ... _photo.php

Now that I think about it, that Hanneman/Heineken banner that's unfurled at shows is a pretty inappropriate tribute to a man who died of alcohol-related cirrhosis.

I was really excited at first when the lineup was announced for the tour, but they're almost all cover bands at this point, and I opted not to go in the end. Sounds like I didn't miss too much.

Guess I should be glad I saw them back in '90 or so on that Clash of the Titans tour with Anthrax, Megadeth and Alice In Chains. That was really quite a bill.

I think the early 2000's after Dave rejoined were a good time to catch them live. They dropped most of the Bostaph numbers from the live set, added in more oldies and started playing Reign in Blood in full, before that kind of thing became such a cliche.

Last time I saw them live was 2005. Your run-of-the-mill Slayer performance, really. My only good memory from it was bumping into some old friends from my childhood, and watching one of them getting totally thrashed (no pun intended) in the mosh pit.
