i fucking hate slumber party massacre 2 so much. at least joe bob made it interesting. can't believe that tool is mike illitch's son and current CEO.

victor crowley was actually pretty amusing. lots of decent practical effects in the huge kill scenes, lots of goofy '80s throw-back style humor. not my favorite thing in horror films, but was pretty amusing, especially given that i have never seen any of the "hatchet" films.

Haunt - second time viewing this was even better with Joe Bob. still say the only thing that made this film less than what it should have been is the last minute. completely unnecessary tag to a good flick. recommended.

Hack-O-Lantern - wow is this a bad movie. but love the DC Lacroix song!

My entire life is in boxes. Tomorrow is moving day. Because of that, i haven’t watched shit lately, let alone Joe Bob’s Valentine’s Day special. I feel guilty about it. It will be the first thing i watch at the new house, once i get things set up. Hopefully this weekend.

Didn’t post, but the first thing I watched in the new house was Joe Bob’s Tammy & The T-Rex. Goofy as it sounds but pretty enjoyable, especially with Joe Bob. It was like if Trauma removed their trademark over-the-top gore. I know that’s like talking about removing the sex scenes from porn, but it kind of works for this movie.

Last night, finally finished Joe Bob’s second V-day film, The Love Witch. You know from the first shot what you’re getting into. It’s a technicolor homage to ‘60s era mystery films and all things hitchcock. Quite effective and enjoyable, sometimes unintentionally so, but seeing JBB’s interview with the creator/writer/producer/director, maybe not unintentionally. Took her 7 years to make it apparently, and all quite deliberately. Maybe just amusing because Elaine reminds me of many girls i know or have known.

This season has been great so far. We’ve had:
Mother’s Day - surprised i hadn’t seen this. it’s essentially a cross between TCM and F13. lots of the same filming locations as F13. it was unintentionally funny in a great way, and JBB had eli roth co-hosting with him. roth loves this film, and his explanations and commentary were fantastic. great sense of humor on him.

House By The Cemetery - hadn’t seen this one either. really kind of bonkers, just fucking weird. sort of a plot i guess, but doesn’t really make sense. roth loved this one too, and his comment was forget about the plot, just enjoy the film for what it is. in that manner, it’s pretty great. that fucking kid has to be the most annoying child actor in history but delivers some of the most unintentionally hilarous moments of the film.

Audition - watched this with my friend and my wife, both of whom had never seen it. always funny to introduce people to this film. they never see it coming. i enjoyed this quite a bit more this time around than i remembered enjoying it the first time. it really is a subtle, fantastic film, until it stops being subtle, then it’s just fantastic. originally all i got from it was boredom then the over the top shock value, but this time i tried to forget the hype and just watch it as a film, and quite enjoyed it.

Class Of 1984 - man i had forgotten about this one. it is so goddamn funny to watch now, michael fox (before adding the fake “J” to his name, this must’ve been before he got his SAG card) is in it, and apparently he got the family ties gig while filming this. he’s 19 in this. but the funniest part is fucking tim van patten - director extroidinaire of many sopranos and boardwalk empire episodes - is the main “bad guy” kid. it’s so hilarious to see him act like this. and the guy who was the president in “day after tomorrow” i think, one of those disaster flicks, is the “good guy” teacher trying to reform these kids. pretty amusing.

Bride Of Re-Animator - JBB asserts that this is better than re-animator. he’s quite wrong on that front, but i see his logic. i always considered this film a let-down after the first one, but it was better than i remembered, just still real dumb. best part was jeffrey combs was his guest on this episode and his annecdotes were fantastic. said he’s very open to reprising west one more time, if the story is right. someone get on that, i’d love to see “old man west” go out properly.

Next Of Kin - i guess this was a “lost” australian film, something no one outside of the festival circuits had ever seen. it was shelved for decades until QT said something about it being one of his favorite aussie films while doing press for hateful 8 i think it was, so someone pulled it out and here we are. i can see why QT likes it. it’s not really a horror film as much as a “suspense” type of film, kind of like The Changling. the cinematography is pretty great, and in some parts fucking fantastic. it was also the only horror film this director ever did. he went for it, and it really worked. i got into it, and the ending paid off.

last week, we had:
Ginger Snaps - this one was off my radar. looking at the trailer, i would never have went out of my way to see this. too bad, as it's really fun and good. i quite dug it. was pretty unexpected. probably the best werewolf film since dog soldiers.

Fried Barry - had never heard of this and holy shit was it great. i know reviews are all over the place, but it's sort of a surreal, drug-fueled, alien film. i don't even know how to describe it. apparently there wasn't really a script. it's really good, and the soundtrack is fucking excellent. watch it.

a couple weeks ago, we had Maniac Cop and Maniac Cop II. Bruce Campbell was the guest on 1. he ruled, of course. i hadn't seen that in a long time. it's fine, that's about it. didn't watch 2 yet.

this week we had:
Train To Busan - this had been on my watchlist for some time, so i was grateful that JBB had it. holy shit was this movie great. lived up to the hype. really, really enjoyed this. just the perfect amount of everything. i had delayed watching for the exact reason JBB cited that it went under the radar - oh, zombies, been there done that. that was a mistake. this was a refreshing take on the genre. highly recommended.

Spookies - i distinctly remember avoiding this when it came out due to the goofy title. this was a massive train wreck in every possible way. what a gigantic pile of shit. i can't even begin to explain what's going on here, likely due to the fact that it is essentially 2 movies crammed together in editing to attempt to make a film (per JBB's education). ridiculous. no idea why this has any kind of cult following. retarded darcy talking about how great the effects were, especially the grim reaper, is ridiculous. all the "monsters" looked like they were wearing halloween costumes. the grim reaper in particular looked like dime store football pads and lights painted up. such a massive pile of shit just underscoring that darcy shouldn't be in charge of anything. while i'm eternally grateful for the role she played in getting JBB back on the air, i really dislike her, don't agree with her tastes in the least, and find her vapid and useless. the less she is on screen the better.

Seem to remember Red Letter Media including Spookies in one of their Best of the worst videos and hooooo-boy did it belong in that series.

Ice Cream Man - this actually wasn't as bad as I assumed it was going to be. not good by any means, but not awful. Clint is an underrated guy.

Gator Bait - i fucking hate this movie. i remember renting this back in the day because the cover promised extensive T&A. there is neither T&A nor gators in this film, and the music is probably the top three worst horror soundtracks ever. JBB loves it, and provided some interesting factoids and history, but didn't save the movie for me.

Joe Bob needs to slow down on these, I'm so far behind on watching them. Which I'll tell him when he's here next year for a con. . I don't think I've had time for any of the ones released in 2021. Maybe over the holidays.

My friend and I watched this one back in the day when we used to go to Shop 'n Save and browse through the bad horror movie rentals in the 99 cent selection. I don't remember too much about that one though. My favorite find from those days was the Pit and the Pendulum with Lance Henriksen.

I really dislike darcy’s whole thing, but am supremely grateful to her for digitizing JBB’s old library and seemingly being his travel guide. I’m not sure why joe bob got so emotional during the intro on friday, either - searching online i can’t find anything - but i suspect it might have something to do with darcy and/or her kid. So i guess they have a close relationship. So while i really don’t like her, if joe bob does, that’s enough for me.

Black Roses - it had been probably since this came out that i saw it. It is really, really funny, not because it tries to be. It’s awful. But damn is it amusing. Best part was seeing Vincent Pastore in his acting debut getting eaten by a speaker. The most unbelievable part is the “high school” dude (who was 26) that was supposed to be this hard ass has a perfectly healthy, fairly big plant on the window sill in his bedroom. Don’t know that I needed a couple of drag queens as guests for the entire movie, more revisionist history about horror and “the queer community” while playing a movie that has at least two different grown men fucking high school girls. They were occasionally entertaining. Shrug.

Maniac Cop 2 - one of those films that's not really a horror film. it's more of a police procedural that has some hard gore elements. it's pretty hilarious, and pretty amazing that he got the cast he did to participate in this. bummed to see bruce die so early, but it served the story better.

Things - ok, i know there is a lot of talk about the worst movie ever made, and people have their "favorites", but this is quite literally the worst film ever made. to the point that i can't believe someone paid for this, that it was distributed as a film. looks like something a third-grader would make. everything about it is wrong, from the technical aspect to the "plot" to the effects, etc. it's pretty incredible to witness. everyone should have to see this at least once. it's so bad that i almost want to see it again just to confirm that it's real.
