It's not their own content. NBC does not produce the show, Broadway Video does. Many network shows are not produced by the network itself, though with mergers and consolidation it's to the point where a lot are. The initial contract includes the rights to distribute clips via social media as well for x amount of time. Once that time passes the rights revert back to the original owner. Thus the reason NBC can't make every SNL in the entire history of the show available. It would cost them too much to license the whole thing. That's not even getting to licensing the music (which is part of why the DVD releases stopped).TC wrote:what? so NBC has to license its own content from them? i mean, the SNL app is all NBC branded, all the SNL videos online are only on the NBC website, etc.
