223I'm really loving that Lynch is fully embracing FWWM with the new series and building off it. If anyone else had done a relaunch or continuation, likely even Frost by himself, it's be bogged down in trying to recapture the popular aspects of the original series.

The best thing about the whole show so far is that it is entirely it's own thing. They're not going for nostalgia and just trying to please the fans. They have something new to tell and new ways of telling it, while still staying within the framework of the original show.
Re: Twin Peaks [2017]
225is it? i feel many aspects of the original run were because they were forced into the box that was "TV". there were certain story elements that needed to be present, they had to hit certain beats, etc. and badalamenti's nearly constant underlying jazz really set it apart. all of that has been completely abandoned. i think the constant here is really just lynch. i mean obviously, but he clearly loves the world of twin peaks, and i feel like it probably represents his personality better than anything else he's done. parts are dark, parts are quirky, parts are fantastical, etc. he has something new to say, and we're getting it. he'll get there at his own pace. this run doesn't feel so much like marching toward something ("who killed laura palmer", what happened the rest of S2 was mostly... unfortunate) as much as he just pulled back the curtain and is showing us a window into the world of TP. while i applaud that it feels like he's tossed out any expectations of what TV is and is just doing what he wants, i do miss the background music. it has been creeping in here and there, and my assumption is that as cooper "returns" and we get reintroduced to audrey, the underlying swing of the show will return. don't get me wrong, i love the music that's in this show - a lot - i just miss angelo's cues._Marcus_ wrote:while still staying within the framework of the original show.
it really does feel like an 18h movie. i love that lynch isn't rushed into telling a story and it spending as much time as it seems he wants to on any given scene/character/etc. i mean, while you could describe the first 14 episodes of the original run in a sentence ("who killed laura palmer"), i don't see how you could do that with this run. at least, it's not clear to me yet.

Re: Twin Peaks [2017]
232Mmm.... The detractors aren't completely without a point - the show is proving to be a little bit dull in its current form. There's some great material in there, and I'm assuming it'll all come together into something pretty great by the end, but there's also a lot of filler and getting there is a slog sometimes. Too many characters, too much going on and not all of it very interesting. . I suspect it would work best cut down remorselessly into a long feature with a couple of intervals, around 7 hours in length. Maybe we'll even get something like that from Lynch further down the line. Until then, I've got to be honest folks, I'm watching Silicon Valley and Better Call Saul before I get to Twin Peaks, the appetite doesn't lie.
Re: Twin Peaks [2017]
233you could describe the first run exactly the same way. it's just not a single-viewing type of show, and i've accepted that i will reserve judgement until we see the "end" of this 18-hour film we're blessed with.klimov wrote:Mmm.... Re: Twin Peaks [2017]
234Oh yeah, for sure, we need to get to the end before it's possible to fully form an opinion. Which is certainly interesting for a TV show, most of them you can measure within 2-3 episodes, including the original series of TP.

Very much where I'm at. And I can rewatch these new episodes endlessly, I'm limiting myself to about four viewings per so my family doesn't think I've gone insane.

Re: Twin Peaks [2017]
236Assuming your family knows you even slightly that ship has probably already sailed. But if you makes you feel better I've usually watched each episode four times just my Monday alone.Alexhead wrote:I'm limiting myself to about four viewings per so my family doesn't think I've gone insane.

Re: Twin Peaks [2017]
238Probably the best part so far. Just absolutely amazing from start to finish. Some thoughts:
I'm kind of giddy after this part. Wow.
