look at those images. just look at them. i believe some of them are in the movie in some of the cut/flash scenes, just very quickly (i have watched frame by frame). others are not. this is a goddamn travesty, especially considering what came not too long after - the start of the "torture porn" horror films. someone please make this happen.

i also have a bone to pick with the title of that article - it's missing the word "more" before awesome. as you all know, i do love this film. this and in the mouth of madness are some damn fine sam neil gems.

Event Horizon will soon head to the small screen via the Amazon Prime streaming service, and here's what we know about the series so far. When released in 1997, director Paul W.S. Anderson's sci-fi/horror film Event Horizon didn't exactly prove as attractive to moviegoers as a black hole does to, well, everything around it. Event Horizon was a critical and commercial dud, but as has happened to many horror films, it went on to amass a large cult following via years of cable, home video, and streaming availability.

It's no wonder Event Horizon eventually caught on, as the concept of putting Hell - or at least a realm quite close to it - within outer space is one full of possibilities for frights, even if the obscure 1990 movie Dark Side of the Moon did it first. Often described as The Shining meets Alien, Event Horizon provided both The Shining's haunted house scares and Alien's claustrophobic, creepily designed environments. The scenes depicting the goings on in Hell are also legendarily gory, even though most of what was shot ended up on the cutting room floor.

While storage mistakes have ensured that fans are unlikely to ever get the original 130-minute director's cut of Event Horizon, they'll at least get to experience a new take on the material with Amazon's upcoming TV adaptation. Details about it so far are scarce, but it's time to take a look at what we do know.

News that Amazon Prime was developing a TV series adaptation of Event Horizon first broke in August 2019. Paramount Television is behind the potential show, and Adam Wingard (Godzilla vs. Kong) is onboard to executive produce it, as well as possibly direct. It's unclear if Wingard would also ultimately serve as showrunner. Since any kind of production timeline has yet to be revealed, it's hard to say when fans should expect to stream the Event Horizon TV series. That will depend on when filming finally begins.

No details on the story of the potential Event Horizon Amazon TV series have been revealed thus far. It's also not clear if the project is intended to remake the film or serve as a follow-up. If the latter, there's certainly room to play with things, as Stark and Cooper both survived the film, so they could conceivably return in some way. The Event Horizon could also once again return from Hell, bringing the malevolent spirit of Dr. Weir back, and possibly revealing the horrors that befell Captain Miller after he sacrificed himself to save what was left of his crew. If Amazon and Paramount go the remake route, the opportunity exists to create something closer to Paul W.S. Anderson's original vision for the story. Either way, the concept of Hell in space remains one with limitless possibilities.

just re-watched the film last night. it's still great. and, given that the original cut was 2h and we'll probably never see it, given they didn't protect the footage, a series is the only way we might get to further explore and mine the ideas here. i'm hopeful.
