That had to be one of the silliest movies I've seen in a while, though I'm not sure that's what they were going for.

I don't know, can't get sillier than grown men running around in catsuits, right? For a Marvel, thought it was pretty marvellous.

It's not a Marvel movie, it's a Sony movie. Catsuits are meaningless, it's what happens when they're in them that counts.

Sony were the lead producer, it's still a Marvel (probably the best Marvel after Guardians of the Galaxy).

Marvel studios had nothing to do with it. It is just based on a Marvel property. Venom had actually gone into production before the whole Sony/Marvel "we'll help you make your films suck less" deal happened. It's not a part of the same universe, nor did Marvel have any say in it.

Go say that around the Disney offices and see what kind of reaction you get.

Only the 5th highest grossing picture of the year, ignore our credit, we don't want anything to do with that?

Money is all that counts, and Marvel isn't getting anything extra out of it, having gotten their money for the rights long ago. If anything they're probably pissed that another studio is having such a success.

Venom is "in association with Marvel Studios" so they do have some piece of it, it seems. In any case, none of this is relevant to the classification of it as a Marvel film, ie. a film based on Marvel source material, which it is.

you can't just call anything based on a marvel property "a marvel film" when they've established the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe™, otherwise we'd be calling Howard The Duck a Marvel film. they changed the language of how we can talk about their films.

as far as this one goes, i'll watch this bromance when it's free.

I didn't say it was part of the MCU. That also goes for some of the Disney Marvels. And yes, Howard the Duck is a Marvel, why not?
