Mr. Sugarape hasn't done his research. Anglophone critics were hostile, but the film was generally well received in France (on the cover of Le Monde, Liberation and Positif) and also in Latin America. South Korea's top critic had it in his best of all time list at one point. As low budget indie debuts by 24-year-old directing/producing teams go, it could have been worse.

The guy was only talking about the reaction of Cannes screenings in his article, not in general. It appears he took the whole thing from a single line in a Variety article about the film. Still, true or not, there's worse company to be lumped in with than Cronenberg and von Trier. I'd embrace it.
