My thought of the day:
Based on the other locked thread, if Klimov gets banned from this board, which exists only because he was banned from another board, will the Universe implode upon itself in a massive puff of circular logic? For if Von feels this board can't exist with Klimov on it, yet this board exists because of him, surely the paradox will start a tear in the fabric of the universe and will fold in upon itself. This will then lead to proof that black is white, getting us all killed on the next zebra crossing.

No, then everyone will migrate to yet a third new board, and that's just too many to keep track of. Two is a pain in the ass as it is. Besides, I'm fond of this little corner of the Universe. Aside from some intergalactic teenagers pulling pranks with cows and anal probes, we're mostly left alone to destroy ourselves without outside help.

filed under: "This can't be a good sign."

was just walking to lunch when a baby bird committed suicide (or was pushed) directly in front of me. plopped right down on the sidewalk, missing my head by inches. didn't even have any feathers yet.

how the hell am i to interpret that? ugh. i feel sick.

and in today's "Epic Fail" category...

on the 9th i took my car to the local fix-it place because it was acting weird when i started it and i didn't want to end up stranded somewhere. they run the battery of tests and tell me everything looks good, just needed a new battery. cool, much cheaper than an alternator.

fast-forward to today. enter my car at 6am to go to work and it doesn't turn over at all now. nothing. clearly i'm super-pissed. call AAA (great investment!) and have it towed back to fix-it place so they can re-fix it.

at this point i should mention that i've been going there for years and have spent lots of money there and have never had a problem. everyone that works there has been really cool, particularly the manager. he's cut me breaks here and there too, and it's very close to home.

fast-forward again to 10 minutes ago. manager calls me and is very embarrassed and sheepish, apologizing over and over. turns out that while they charged me for everything on the 9th, they never actually put in the new battery.

o.O!!!

he offered to do an oil change (i'm due) as well as rotation, balance, lube, etc. for free as compensation.

wow. i'm lucky i can work from home today or i would be far more pissed. it's just kind of funny at this pont. i mean, wow.

Doh! I had a similar problem with a mechanic with my old Escort I inherited from my dad. He took it in for full tune-up around 100k miles and one of the things they did was change the spark plugs. Like 6 months later I was driving home from college one weekend and one of the spark plugs failed because the tip actually snapped off. We took it to the same mechanic and he said, "these spark plugs are really old, they should be replaced anyway." When my dad brought in the invoice showing that they had charged us to do that 6 months ago, the mechanic was similarly embarrassed. My parents actually started going to another shop at that point.

AAA is the best. I've totally gotten my money's worth out of that between jump starts, tows, tire changes, free maps, etc. The worst experience though was when my battery died and I got stuck in the parking garage at Lambert Airport after dropping off a friend. When I called the 1-800 number they wanted to know the address of where I was at. "I don't know the address, I'm at the fucking airport! I can tell you exactly what level of the garage I'm on and what entrance I'm stuck in front of!" "I'm sorry, I need the address to enter into the computer." "I don't know the address! One Lambert Drive! Who gives a fuck? I'm in a drop-off area and I'm probably going to get towed soon!" I finally got a jump from an airport service person and never did see the AAA tow truck.
